One of the pleasures of speaking French is to be able to read the newspaper. We have a list of great websites with news for you to choose from on our website (scroll down).
Often, journalists won’t be entirely certain of the information they share. When they want to imply the information is not verified or that “rumour has it”, they tend to use the conditional mood. One of our French tutor’s class (Audrey’s), has been working to write an article with lots of hypotheses. Here is Paul’s entertaining homework:

La BBC aurait insinué que madame Berry allait présenter une nouvelle émission sur les grandes demeures mais bien sûr nous avons besoin d’autres émissions de cuisine!
La BBC aurait dit qu’un nouveau spectacle – Le grand défi de la cuisine en famille – continuerait la tradition. Les équipes familiales d’amateurs enthousiastes se battraient pour la chance d’être couronnés “meilleurs cuisiniers à domicile”. Les juges visiteraient les équipes chez elles et les élimineraient grâce à des défis basés sur la réalisation des repas quotidiens.
